How about banning all political advertising?
Regarding the letter in the Lethbridge Herald on Dec. 5 by Karen Travis, “Trump-style politics have come to Alberta,” I agree with her and Josephine Aristone on suggesting that the money spent on the four-page ad could have been better spent on helping the poor.
I am sure The Herald doesn’t need the revenue; maybe they can trade in their journalistic souls and tap into the $600 million the Trudeau government is offering to buy off the media. But let’s be fair regarding spending money on political campaigns and not just pick on the UCP party and candidates. Let’s ban all political advertising, no radio, TV, newspaper or social media. I would love that.
I am not quite sure how, then, the different views and political platforms would get communicated to the voting public. I am guessing that Rachel N., Shannon P. and Maria F. don’t have egos that need a little massaging from time to time, only politicians you don’t agree with. I am not sure what the misleading statements are but, like most things, it is open to personal interpretation or bias.
I also find it interesting that in Canada the greatest insult or reference you can try to label another politician with, is to compare them to Trump. Trump appears not to be too popular in Canada, but at least he is sticking up for his own country. Which is more that you can say about our premier and prime minister and how they treat Alberta. When I want to label someone as an extremely poor leader and I am being very gentle when I use the word poor, I call them “like Trudeau,” both father and son. Just my personal opinion.
