OWC trees will last beyond Christmas
The Oldman Watershed Council, a non-profit organization promoting watershed health in southern Alberta, is selling live, potted White Spruce trees this holiday season.
The ready-to-give trees are an environmentally friendly gift option, an alternative to a plastic or cut tree in your home, or the perfect office Secret Santa gift. Plus, as a real, living tree, they can easily be cared for over the winter and transplanted into the ground in the spring.
“My favourite aspect of these trees, is that they are wonderful gifts that can be planted outside and become a beautiful, living, breathing part of nature,” Diane Herrick, fund development specialist for the Oldman Watershed Council, said in a news release. “These trees are perfect for someone who is beautify their yard, or those with limited space in their homes, but still want the wonderful smell and presence of a real tree. If you don’t have a place to plant you tree in the spring, they can be returned to the OWC and we will plant it for you during one of our restoration projects.”
There are a limited number of unique natural and decorated trees available. Single natural and decorated trees can be purchased for $20 and $25, respectively, while sets of five are available at a 20 per cent discount. The Oldman Watershed Council invites you to stop and see these beautiful White Spruce trees.
“We have a very limited number of these special trees and I invite you to come by the office and choose your favourite to take home, or give as a gift.” Herrick said. “We can also deliver the trees within the city area for a small fee.”
The money raised through OWC’s White Spruce Tree sale will help provide resources critical to the organization’s mission, including funding education and restoration projects like the recently completed restoration project near Pasque Creek, where more than 340 willows were harvested and planted at the headwaters of the Oldman River. Additionally, the proceeds from the campaign will contribute to the sustainable operation and growth of the OWC.
