Hockey Hounds drop pair on weekend

The Lethbridge Midget AA Hounds suffered a pair of weekend losses but still remain in a tie for first place in the SCAHL South Division hockey standings.

On Saturday, the Hounds fell 8-2 to the host Okotoks Oilers. The Hounds trailed 1-0 after the first period, and 3-0 after two. Affiliated player Rylan Bruns scored just 30 seconds into the third period to make it 3-1 and Josh Conley also scored in the third, but Okotoks responded with five third-period goals to put the game out of reach.

Alex Resler stopped 29 of 37 shots in net for Hounds.

On Sunday in Calgary, the Hounds fell 6-1 to the CBHA Blackhawks. The Hounds outshot the Blackhawks 10-3 in the first 10 minutes of the first period, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

The Blackhawks scored three power-play goals in just 1:39 for a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

In the second period, Ian Maier scored a power-play goal for the Hounds to make it 3-1, but the Blackhawks score an even-strength goal with 1:29 left in the second to make it 4-1 after two.

The Blackhawks added two more powerplay goals in the third to round out the scoring.

Logan Leroux stopped 25 of 31 shots in net for the Hounds.

The Hounds next home game is Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Labour Club Arena against the Taber Golden Suns. Then the Hounds are on the road Saturday when they travel to Nanton to play the Foothills Bisons.
