Pronghorns set to host Dinos

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

After a weekend sweep that strengthened their hold on sixth place, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s hockey team looks to keep climbing the Canada West standings this weekend.

They’ll attempt to do that against a team seven points ahead of them as the 7-9-2 Horns host the 11-6-1 Calgary Dinos in a home-and-home series starting tonight at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.

Game 2 goes Saturday night in Calgary.

The Pronghorns come in off a sweep of the Regina Cougars that puts them solidly in the sixth-and-final playoff spot, eight points up on the Manitoba Bisons and four points behind the UBC Thunderbirds.

The Dinos hold down third place in the Canada West following a split with the Saskatchewan Huskies last weekend.

Justin Valentino leads the Pronghorns with seven goals and 21 points in 18 games and combined with linemates Torrin White and Ryan Chynoweth for 15 points against Regina last weekend.

White is second on the team with 13 points in 12 games.

Pronghorns goaltender Garret Hughson improved his record to 7-6-1-0.

On the women’s side, the Horns continue their playoff chase when they host the Dinos Friday at 7 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

The second game is Saturday at 6 p.m. in Calgary.

A weekend split with Regina puts the Pronghorns at 5-12-1-0 and in seventh in the Canada West, seven points behind the Mount Royal University Cougars.

The 2-14 Dinos are in eighth place in the Canada West.

Kyra Greig scored once in each game against Regina for her second and third goals of the season and goaltender Alicia Anderson earned her fifth shutout of the season.

Tricia Van Vaerenbergh and Alli Borrow lead the Pronghorns with seven points in 18 games.
