Two men charged following a drug bust last month have been sentenced to short periods of jail after pleading guilty Thursday in Lethbridge provincial court to some of their charges.

John Elvis Jones, who was originally charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, pleaded guilty instead to drug possession and was sentenced to time served for the 14 days he had already spent in custody following his arrest.

Court was told Jones, 26, was among a group of people police found Dec. 21 in a northside home, where he was caught in possession of .4 grams of heroin.

Police found 13 people in the home, nine of whom had outstanding arrest warrants. Police said they seized 21 prepackaged doses of carfentanil, 16 pre-packaged doses of heroin, and stolen property including identification and health cards, skis, a mountain bike and tools.

Jones still faces additional charges and is expected to address them in court today.

In an unrelated matter, Jones also pleaded guilty to one count each of theft under $5,000 and drug possession, for which he was sentenced to 14 days in jail, to be served concurrently with his previous sentence.

Jones was in Walmart and attempted to leave with $400 worth of items, for which he hadn’t paid. When police searched him subsequent to his arrest, they found a single morphine pill.

Victor Running Rabbit also pleaded guilty Thursday to one count each of drug possession and possession of stolen property under $5,000 in relation to the police raid.

Police caught him with a small amount of heroin and a stolen mountain bike, and he was sentenced to 18 days in custody, for which he was given full credit for time already served.

Others charged in relation to the raid include Tiffany Genereaux, 27, of Standoff; Deon Gros Venture Boy, 23, of Lethbridge; Shelly Bevans, 49, of Fort Macleod; Richard Shaw, 42, of Lethbridge; and Jessica Johnston, 42, of Lethbridge.
