THREE-POINT WEEKEND KEEPS AAA SQUAD ATOP STANDINGS

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

A three-point weekend has helped the Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes remain atop the Alberta Midget Hockey League.

The Hurricanes skated to a 3-3 tie with Edmonton CAC Gregg Distributors Saturday afternoon at Nicholas Sheran Arena and blanked the Okotoks Bow Mark Oilers 1-0 Sunday in Okotoks.

With the win and tie the defending AMHL champions improve to 23-61 and stay atop the league, two points up Calgary Buffaloes and five points ahead of the Calgary Northstars and Red Deer Optimist Chiefs.

On Saturday at Nicholas Sheran Arena, Zack Stringer — fresh off his call-up by the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League — scored with 3:59 remaining to earn the 3-3 tie. Stringer also had an assist for a two-point game.

Edmonton had scored with 5:24 remaining to take a 3-2 lead.

Seth McCulloch and Tayler Miller scored the other Lethbridge goals.

Hurricanes goaltender Cole Tisdale made 18 saves.

Goaltender Brayden Peters — another recent WHL call-up with the Calgary Hitmen where he earned his first career WHL win last week in Swift Current — made 20 saves to earn the shutout Sunday in Okotoks. It was his leagueleading fourth shutout of the season. Tisdale is second in the AMHL with three shutouts.

Tristan Kimmen scored in the first period for Lethbridge for the game’s only goal.

The Hurricanes ice a twogame homestand this weekend at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

It starts Saturday against the Edmonton SSAC Boston Pizza Athletics at 3 p.m. and wrap up Sunday at 2:45 p.m. against the Northstars.
