- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

An undefeated weekend has the Lethbridge Val Matteotti bantam AAA Golden Hawks looking to move up the standings.

The Golden Hawks edged the Calgary Bisons 3-2 in Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League play Saturday afternoon at the ATB and then duelled the Red Deer Rebels to a 3-3 draw Sunday in Red Deer.

The win and the tie put the Golden Hawks at 10-11-6 and within two points of the Medicine Hat SEAC Tigers (1211-4) for third place in the Ram South Division.

On Saturday at the ATB Centre, Lethbridge opened up a 3-0 lead after two periods over the Bisons and held on for the win.

Rylen Roersma scored both Golden Hawks goals in the first period and Ty Fraser struck for what stood up as the game-winner with 7:19 left in the second period.

Carter Capton made 34 saves in the win.

Roersma capped off a fourgoal weekend Sunday in Red Deer with another pair that gives him a team-leading 23 on the season.

His 43 points in 26 games also puts Roersma 11th in league scoring.

Caden Heins scored the game-tying goal for Lethbridge 7:22 into the third.

Cole Wirun and Braigh LeGrandeur each had two assists for the Golden Hawks.

Ty Young was kept busy in goal for Lethbridge, making 44 saves, including 16 in the second and third periods.

The Golden Hawks continue a busy eight-game month of February this weekend with two games in Calgary.

They play the Challenger South-leading Bisons (20-5-3) Saturday and the Flames (177-4) Sunday at 3:30 and 3:15 p.m., respectively.
