Ringette team rattles off gold-medal win

The Lethbridge U16 Rattlers ringette team brought home a tournament title last weekend.

The Rattlers won the Laurie Morton Ruppe Tournament in Strathmore, defeating the host Strathmore Ice 10-6 in a rematch to capture the gold.

Lethbridge began the weekend with an 8-4 win over the Airdrie Sting as Emily Miller scored three goals for Lethbridge and Brynn Stevenson scored twice. Brooke Robinson, Mikayla Miller and Ruthie Bohnec added one each for the Rattlers.

Trey Blair was in goal for Lethbridge, facing 60 shots.

The Rattlers improved to 2-0 with a 13-3 win over the Bowview Charge.

Bohnec led the way with four goals and Emily Miller added another three goals. Stevenson and Raegan Nicol scored twice each and Lisa Beswitheri­ck and Madi Andres added singles.

Blair stopped another 55 shots.

On Saturday the Rattlers defeated the Ice 12-7.

Emily Miller scored four goals and Beswitheri­ck added another three. Mikayla Miller and Brooke Robinson scored twice and Raegan Nicol added one.

Teyha Trekofski and Blair split the goaltendin­g duties.

The win put the Rattlers and Ice in a rematch with the gold medal on the line as Lethbridge prevailed 10-6 on a six-goal performanc­e from Emily Miller.

Brynn Stevenson, Mikayla Miller, Madi Andres and Madison Borbely added singles for the Rattlers.

Blair earned the win, facing 45 shots.

The Rattlers host playdowns Feb. 16-17.
