Lightning strike twice in four-point weekend

The Lethbridge Lightning strengthen­ed their grip on second place in the Ranchland Hockey League last weekend.

The senior men’s hockey team downed the Fort Macleod Mustangs 6-1 Friday night in Fort Macleod and completed the four-point weekend with a 4-1 win over the Siksika Buffaloes Sunday afternoon

The wins improve the Lightning to 12-3-0-0, good for sole possession of second place, two points ahead of the 10-4-0-2 Buffaloes and six points back of the 14-1-0-2 Nanton Palominos.

On Friday in Fort Macleod the Lightning got goals from six different players as James Price, Nic Bohle, Nicholas Mottl, Carson Bolduc, Devery Edmonds and Ashton Zintel provided the offence.

Price added two assists for three points and Edmonds had one helper for a two-point night.

Lethbridge’s Cole Schafer made 40 saves in the win.

Logan Kerner scored for the Mustangs.

In the rare Sunday afternoon game, Bolduc scored twice for the Lightning and Bohle and Cody Berube added singles. Berube also had two assists for three points. Price also had two assists.

Alex Sirard earned the win in goal for Lethbridge.

Darian Henry was the goal scorer for the Buffaloes.

The Lightning are on the road this weekend when they head to Kainai to face the Braves on Saturday.

Lethbridge’s next home game is Feb. 15 against the Piikani Broncs at 8:30 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
