Midget AAA Hurricanes home for the weekend

The Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes are home for a pair of games in Alberta Midget Hockey League play this weekend.

The Hurricanes take on the Edmonton SSAC Boston Pizza Athletics today at 3 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena and the Calgary Northstars Sunday at 2:45 p.m., also at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

The Canes are coming off a 10-1 previous weekend and remain atop the AMHL at 23-6-1, two points ahead of the 21-7-3 Calgary Buffaloes.

The Northstars are five points back of the Hurricanes at 19-9-4.

The Athletics are 11-18-1 and in sixth in the Dodge north Division.

In Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League action the Lethbridge Headwater minor midget AAA Hurricanes will play three games in three days.

The Canes were on the road Friday night as they faced the SEAC Tigers in Medicine Hat and continue their road trek today when they head to Calgary to take on the CRAA Blue.

The team returns home to Nicholas Sheran Arena Sunday at noon when the Edmonton NWCAA Stamps come to town.

The Hurricanes (20-3-2) remain atop the South Division, two points up on the 18-6-4 Red Deer North Star Chiefs, and second overall in the league behind the PAC Saints (24-2-2).

The Lethbridge Val Matteotti bantam AAA Golden Hawks are in Calgary this weekend for a pair of games in Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League play and looking to get to the .500 mark.

The Golden Hawks play the Bisons at 3:30 p.m. today and face off against the Flames on Sunday at 3:15 p.m.

Lethbridge is coming off a three-point previous weekend that improved them to 10-11-6.

The Lethbridge midget AA Hurricane Hounds are in Red Deer today to play Red Deer CanPro in South Central Alberta Hockey League play in their only game of the weekend.

The Hounds are 14-11-3 and in and tied for third in the South Conference with the Taber Golden Suns.

The Golden Suns are at home Friday night against the Calgary CBHA Blackhawk and are in Calgary Sunday to take on the CBHA Rangers.

In Heritage Junior Hockey League play, the Coaldale Copperhead­s seek to lock up first place in the South Division as they hit the road today to Ponoka to play the Stampeders at 8:30 p.m.

Coaldale is 28-7-2 heading into thier final regular season game, one point up on the Okotoks Bisons (27-7-3), who were playing the league-leading Airdrie Thunder Friday night in Okotoks.
