Kodiaks handed first loss

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team has been handed its first loss of the season.

In a battle of the top-two teams in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference South Division, the Kodiaks took the Red Deer Kings to a fifth set Friday night at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium, but were downed 3-2, losing the fifth set 15-9.

The loss puts the Kodiaks at 20-1 as the teams get ready for the rematch today at 3 p.m. at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. The win improves the Kings to 17-6.

Carter Hansen and Dax Whitehead had 15 and 12 kills, respective­ly, for the Kodiaks.

Whitehead had 13 digs and Tony Albizzati and Matt Primrose had 12 each.

In the women’s game, the Kodiaks were defeated 3-0 by the Queens and are now 3-18. The teams wrap up the weekend today at 1 p.m.

Mackenzie Lewicki had 12 kills for the Kodiaks and Brooke Ringuette had 10 to go along with 12 digs. Carmen Nadeau added 10 digs for Lethbridge.
