United Way accepting funding applications for the 2019-20 year

- Greg Bobinec LETHBRIDGE HERALD

United Way is again inviting registered Canadian charities within Lethbridge and southwestern Alberta to apply for funding to support programs for individuals and families during the 2019-20 year.

Over the last three years, United Way has provided grants to 30 organizations across southwestern Alberta. The programs are funded by Untied Way and their community donors who help thousands of people in the community every year.

United Way of Lethbridge and South Western Alberta is one of more than 100 operating United Ways across Canada, which work to identify the cause of the most significant local issues and develop strategies to address them. Their vision is to develop communities where everyone works as a team to make sure poverty is temporary, individuals and families live healthy lifestyles and children have the tools to reach their full potential.

Proposed programs for funding will align with the United Way vision. In order to ensure donor dollars are invested where they will have the greatest impact and address the most urgent needs, a team of community volunteers will be there to assist with the evaluation and review process.

In previous years, United Way Lethbridge and South Western Alberta has assisted many organizations with their programs such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club of Lethbridge and Crowsnest Pass, MS Society, Lethbridge YMCA, Lethbridge Food Bank and St. John Ambulance.

The deadline for organizations to apply for the funding program is March 29. Fill out their application at lethbridgeunitedway.ca/funding. Community members interested in taking part in the evaluation process can express their interest by submitting a resume and references to together@lethbridgeunitedway.ca.
