Several events on tap on Family Day

ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR U OF L, GALT MUSEUM AND HELEN SCHULER NATURE CENTRE

Enjoy a day of shared activities and togetherne­ss in Lethbridge on Family Day. With various events happening in the community, there are plenty of options to choose from.

For those interested in sport and being physically active, the University of Lethbridge is sponsoring its eighth annual Play Day. Play Day activities with a Winter Wonderland theme include the classic Free Build cardboard fort building zone, along with a collection of sporting activities such as basketball, floor hockey, swimming and fitastic play. The U of L’s Ascent Climbing Centre is also available for use while art activities and science-themed educationa­l areas will be spread throughout the facility. Facepainti­ng will also be part of the festivitie­s. The event starts at 11 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m.

In keeping with sport and active play theme, free public skating will also be offered at the Nicholas Sheran Arena between 12:45 and 2:45 p.m.

For those of a more historical bent, the Galt Museum will host a pancake breakfast followed by live music and craft activities. The event starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m.

Casa will also be offering its family art program for all ages starting at noon and going until 4 p.m. The Helen Schuler Nature Centre will present challengin­g and constructi­ve activities with its Brain Zone Challenges starting at 11 a.m. and going until 4 p.m.

For those who might feel like taking a drive on Family Day, the Town of Coaldale will be holding its 15th annual Community Fest on Monday starting at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Community Centre. Various free activities will be offered throughout the day at six locations. The event concludes at 3 p.m.
