College earns windfall of CASA Awards
Lethbridge College has been recognized for having one of the best communications and marketing teams in the postsecondary world with big wins at the Council for Advancement and Support for Education (CASE) District VIII Communication Awards in Vancouver on Thursday.
“The Lethbridge College marketing, communications and advancement team just did amazing work this year to get recognized against schools from four U.S. states, four western provinces and the territories,” said Lethbridge College’s senior communications specialist Paul Kingsmith, who was in Vancouver for the awards. “We measured up so well against so many schools and so many larger in size than Lethbridge College. We are super proud of the work our team has done.”
The college won awards in five categories, including: a bronze award for its “South of 60” illustrations in its Spring 2018 Wider Horizons magazine by artist Eric Dyck; a silver award for the “Time of his Life” feature story by senior writer and editor Lisa Kozleski in the same edition of Wider Horizons; and a gold award for Kozleski’s editorial short “Time” also in the same edition of Wider Horizons.
As wonderful as the wins are, said Kingsmith, he and the whole Lethbridge College team were particularly proud to win a gold award for the college’s branding and image development for its “Be Ready. What Happens Next Matters Most” campaign launched last fall. College marketing coordinator Kristy Clark and Lethbridge-based Curtis Media also won a silver award for their video released to support the same “Be Ready” campaign.
“Everyone in the whole team worked together to make that a reality,” said Kingsmith, “and put in a lot of long hours. We had goosebumps when we began to see that campaign roll out, and what it looked like. To see it recognized at the CASE Awards; we were really proud of it before, and to win here justifies we had the right to be proud of it.”
On a personal note of professional satisfaction, Kingsmith was also awarded one of four “Rising Star” awards at CASE for his communications work with Lethbridge College these past three years. Kingsmith gave full credit to his colleagues at Lethbridge College for putting him in a position to succeed.
“I love coming to work every day and supporting students,” said Kingsmith. “This award shows there were people who believed in me, love what I bring to the team, and that they expect big things from me. I love that challenge.”
