Muller races to two medals at Canada Winter Games
Kaleb Muller is already off to a double medal showing at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.
The 20-year-old speedskater from Cranford combined with teammates Paul Coderre, Max Halyk and Joshua Hathaway for a gold medal in the men’s team pursuit in the second day of competition Sunday with a time of 4:05.41. The time sets a new Canada Games record with previous mark of 4:23.65 set at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
On Saturday, Muller raced his way to silver in the men’s 1,500m race, crossing in a time of 1:57.55 for his first medal at the Canada Games.
Muller competed for Team Alberta at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in long track speedskating and at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in mountain biking.
In boxing on Sunday, Lethbridge’s Kyle Oliver faced off against Liam Dempster of Nova Scotia and won the 60kg bout, winning by unanimous decisions after three rounds to advance to the second round.
Fellow local boxer Joshua Peck did not advance.
