Midget AAA Hurricanes end the regular season with a win

The Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes completed their regular season with a win at home.

The Canes edged the Airdrie CFR Bisons 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Nicholas Sheran to finish the Alberta Midget Hockey League regular season 25-8-1.

That puts the Hurricanes in a tie with the Calgary Buffaloes (24-7-3) for first in the South.

But Calgary will get the top seed in the South with a 2-0 regular season record against Lethbridge.

The Hurricanes made the tiebreaker necessary on Saturday as Derrien Tonin scored in the first period and Levi Young added another in the second.

Young also had an assist for a twopoint afternoon and Cole Tisdale made 28 saves, including 14 in the third period.

On Wednesday, the Hurricanes were doubled 4-2 by the Buffaloes.

Ethan Klemen and Dawson Leroux were the Lethbridge goal scorers. Tisdale kicked out 28 shots. The Hurricanes have a first-round playoff bye as the AMHL quarterfin­als begin Tuesday in the South Divison and Wednesday in the North Division.

In the South Division, the Calgary Flames and Calgary North Stars in one series.

The Red Deer Optimist Chiefs take on the Calgary Royals in the other South Division series.
