Headwater Canes win one, lose one in Calgary

The Lethbridge minor midget AAA Headwater Hurricanes went 1-1 on a weekend road trip to Calgary.

The Hurricanes downed the Calgary CNHA Blazers 6-2 Saturday, but were blanked 4-0 by the Calgary CBHA Blackhawks Sunday.

The win and loss puts the Canes at 24-4-2, good for first in the South Division and second overall to the 25-3-3 PAC Saints.

Lethbridge scored twice in each period in Saturday’s win over the Blazers as Rylan Bruns scored a pair.

Koden Lazar, Bill Houenagnon, Colby Garner and Nolan Price added the other Hurricanes goals.

Bruns added an assist and Garner added two helpers for a three-point game.

Syprus Ives added two helpers in the win.

Marek Andres stopped 22 shots.

The Canes were held off the scoresheet Sunday as the Blackhawks opened up a 2-0 lead after two periods and added two more in third.

Andres stopped another 22 shots.

The Hurricanes complete the regular season this weekend with a home and road game.

They’re at home Saturday when they host the Red Deer North Star Chiefs at 3 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

The Canes wrap up the regular season Sunday in Calgary against the CBHA Rangers.
