MATCHING PETS WITH PEOPLE

-

This public service feature runs each Saturday in the Lethbridge Herald.

This sweet, guinea pig came to Purrfect Endings Rescue as a transfer. He is approximately six years old and so adorable. Frodo was originally purchased for a child when he was a cute, baby. As the years went by the child lost interest and instead of rehoming him, Frodo was basically forgotten. When he was finally surrendered to a rescue he was so matted he couldn't defecate, his little feet were red and sore from urine scalding, his immune system was very compromised and he was covered with mites. Frodo is one of so many pets who are neglected when parents don’t accept responsibility for their care. Despite everything he is slowly recovering and starting to feel better. Purrfect Endings Rescue has many special-needs animals who require ongoing medical care and/or special food. We are always in need of donations to help with our neverending medical bills. No amount is too small. Call Linda (403-3819269) or Sam (403-382-0977) for more information. We are also on Facebook. Thank you so much to those individuals who have donated.

Joey is named for Joey on Friends, and is just as outgoing and confident. He’s energetic and always on the go. Joey doesn’t have much use for toys, preferring to chase around with his roommates. He’s quite dominant, but smart enough not to mess with the bossier girls! Joey would love a forever home where he has space to burn off some of that energy. He doesn’t care for small children. If you are interested in meeting Joey, you can visit him at the Lethbridge Humane Society (2920 16 Ave. N. or call 403-320-8991). To view other Haven pets, go to

Peeta is about seven months old. Originally from Edmonton, he rode all the way to Lethbridge in the engine of a car last fall. He was barely 10 weeks old. His paws were burned and he had some difficulty breathing for a while; however, he is doing very well now. These pictures are of him when he first came in and how he looks today. Peeta gets along with other cats and loves his human caregivers. He is a reserved yet loving and gentle cat. Come on down to the Royal Canadian Legion on Mayor Magrath and 5 Avenue South to “Gypsy Soul” where we have a craft table this Saturday. Guaranteed to be something for everyone. One of our ongoing fundraisers to help with expenses for our cats in rescue. You can also read more about us by visiting www.thelastchancecatranch.com or

Just because you’re growing up doesn’t mean you can’t have friends. Look at Morley and Isobel. Seven and a half year old Morley thinks that everyone is a pal. This grey and white tabby is always looking for a kind touch and a gentle word, and always willing to give them. He loves humans and wants to cuddle and talk with people, and sleep next to them at night. Affectionate and loyal, he has a special place in his heart for Isobel. She’s a rusty-brown and white tabby, and going on four. She has gained in confidence since her younger days; she’s no longer afraid of people and enjoys their company. But, as we mentioned, growing up doesn’t mean you can’t have friends, and though Isobel’s more out-going than she was, she still never wants to be far from Morley. She can’t live without him, and we don’t want her to. Would you like to have two of the sweetest pals? Contact PAW at 403-328-6700 or send an inquiry at www.pawsociety.com. If you have room for this wonderful pair, their hearts have room for you.

Leo is a young mixed breed of unknown parentage — which means we don’t know how big he’ll get. He was born at the end of November or early December. Leo is a sweet calm puppy, smart, methodical and loves to lay around. He likes to play but he’s much quieter than his brother Raph. Both like to take long naps in their playpen and have short bursts of play time before having a snack and then going back to bed. They sleep in a little bed in their playpen. We suspect they should be fairly easy to kennel train. Call 403-359-3139 or visit
