• The annual Strides of Hope Walk will take place May 24, World Schizophre­nia Day, in seven Alberta cities including Lethbridge, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The Lethbridge walk will start at Galt Gardens, 3 Avenue and 7 Street South. Wear purple or white and participat­e in a onehour walk in your community. • Lethbridge and District Horticultu­ral

Society will hold its monthly meeting May 27 at 7 p.m. in the Theatre Gallery of the Lethbridge Public Library (main branch downtown). Dr. Ieuan Evans, for whom the Evans cherry is named, will talk about growing fruit in Alberta. Dr. Evans has new and excellent pear varieties, many apple varieties, lots of plums and even edible mountain ash. He will demonstrat­e successful grafting and planting techniques that succeed against mice and deer. Mountain ash jelly will be available for tasting. Everyone is welcome. • German Canadian Club of Lethbridge holds German dinners every last Monday of the month (except July and August). Next dinner is May 27. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., takeouts at 5 and dinner at 5:40. • The Grand Parade, a family-friendly fundraisin­g walk that celebrates and supports aging Canadians and their families across Canada, takes place June 1, with the Lethbridge walk — the only participat­ing location in Western Canada — being held at Legacy Regional Park. The Lethbridge walk will benefit the Elim Society which operates two seniors’ independen­t living facilities in Lethbridge. The Grand Parade is looking for any teams, walkers, volunteers or sponsors that have or had a senior in their lives who they’d like to support through a charitable cause. Target Hunger is an annual food drive done each year on the second Saturday of June (June 8 this year). Organizers are seeking volunteers to help drop off and collect the yellow bags throughout the city. Route volunteers will deliver and pick up the bright yellow Target Hunger bags on an assigned route within Lethbridge (routes available on a firstcome, first-serve basis) and should have access to a vehicle. You can also sign up to help sort food at the food banks on event day.
