Nearly two weeks ago, they were hastily shut down by Alberta Health Services following an Environmental Health Inspection Report that revealed a heavy cockroach infestation and foods not being stored at proper temperatures.

Now, owners of the New Dynasty restaurant in downtown Lethbridge are vowing to re-open soon.

“The New Dynasty Restaurant has been providing quality food and service to the Lethbridge and area community for many years,” reads a statement to The Herald from Huckvale LLP on behalf of New Dynasty Ownership Group.

“Regretfully, the group acknowledges the issues raised by Alberta Health Services. The ownership group and staff are committed to working with Alberta Health Services to rectify the issues. It is our hope to reopen shortly and to continue providing the quality food and service our customers deserve.”

The New Dynasty Restaurant was issued the order on June 5, when AHS conducted a Risk Management Inspection after receiving a customer complaint. The ensuing inspection reports said “live cockroaches observed on walls, floors and shelves; dead cockroaches observed in glue traps; egg casings observed.”

At that time, AHS said a certified pest control company will be called into New Dynasty, followed by a recommendation on food safety courses for staff. They did not provide a specific timeline, however, saying that will be determined by the pest control company due to guidelines on working with chemicals.
