Man charged in stabbing outside consumption site
Lethbridge Police have charged a 29-year-old man with assault following an incident Saturday where a man was stabbed outside of the Supervised Consumption Site.
At about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, police say they responded to a report of a stabbing outside the SCS along the 1000 block of 1 Avenue South. Upon arrival, police secured the area and seized a knife that had been left in the roadway.
Further investigation, police said in a news release Monday, determined a 39-year-old man and 29year-old man — who are known to one another — had allegedly been involved in a physical altercation in the street. Police say the younger man allegedly struck the older man in the head, causing him to fall to the ground, then allegedly produced a knife and allegedly stabbed him in the face.
The victim was transported to hospital where he was treated and released.
A short time later, police say they located the accused at a northside residence where he was arrested without incident.
Nathan Luke Brewer, 29, of Lethbridge, is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon. Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, a Justice of the Peace released Brewer from custody with several conditions including no contact with the victim and a prohibition from attending within 100 metres of the Supervised Consumption Site. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 18. On Monday, Brewer attended the SCS and was subsequently arrested for breach of a recognizance. Brewer was in custody Monday afternoon awaiting a second Judicial Interim Release.
