- Greg Bobinec LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Families got an exciting view at the Chinook Regional Hospital Monday morning, as superheroes repelled through the different levels of the hospital to greet and wave at some of their biggest fans.

Children got to see and meet with some of their favourite superheroes such as Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America and Wonder Woman as they repelled from the top floor to the ground where they grabbed photos and high-fives from their young fans.

“The guys and girl who are the superheroes are actually cleaners who clean our atrium yearly and they do the high-level dusting here, and after they are all done, they come back strictly to entertain the patients with the focus on the children in the hospital,” says Dave Kortt, director of linen and environmental sciences at Alberta Health Services. “I think any little thing that might help brighten up their day is good and I think that by doing this, it can put a smile on their face and that is what we want to see.”

Chinook Regional Hospital organizes the visit to bring some brightness into the lives of sick children in the hospital who could use the motivation and positivity to push through whatever they are battling.

Dozens of families filled the floors of the hospital to get their moment of one-on-one interaction with their idol including Nadia Weiss, who brought her son Grayson to get to see SpiderMan repel from the ceiling. Weiss says it was amazing to see the excitement the superheroes brought to all of the children and their families.

“My neighbour works here and told me about it so I thought that I would bring the kids because they love superheroes so I thought this would be a great thing to bring him to,” says Weiss. “It has been really great, I love being able to see the pure joy in the kids’ faces as the superheroes climb up and down and wave to them.”
