Coulee Fest set for Saturday
Lethbridge College is gearing up for the community to join them for a day of activities and fun on Saturday at Coulee Fest, a free, family friendly festival.
In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the School of Justice Studies will have a massive display featuring local military, police, sheriffs, commercial vehicle enforcement and fire departments and organizations. Kids will also be able to take part in fingerprinting, suspect sketching and physical fitness exercises to earn prizes.
“We have really changed the academic involvement with inclusive experiences, so we want our community to see the hands-on innovation and technology that our programs across Lethbridge College include,” says Sydney Wakaruk, Alumni Relations co-ordinator and Coulee Fest organizing committee chair. “This year you will see a huge display for our 50th anniversary of policing which includes a lot of military components, unarmed weapons, police cars, fire trucks for people to climb through and learn about.”
Throughout the day, people will also be able to take in other interactive activities from programs including testing virtual reality and entering to win a VR headset with the Learning Commons and Library, free massages from the Massage Therapy students, look at the taxidermy collection with over 60 species from Environmental Sciences, an outdoor play space from the Early Childhood Education program, and food tasting from Agricultural Sciences.
Also celebrating its 50th anniversary at the college is the Nursing program which will have an interactive display, featuring a variety of training equipment and a chance to get some temporary tattoos from the students.
“They will be doing temporary tattoos, candy bar, they will have some historical pieces that look at original entry forms to the program. They are doing some historical pieces and will have some equipment from the current program,” says Wakaruk.
The Centre for Applied Arts and Sciences will be hosting a 50/50 draw to raise money for the Lethbridge College Students' Association Borrow-aTextbook initiative. Corporate and Continuing Education will run the Coulee Fest Crawl contest where participants are able to enter a draw by visiting a variety of Coulee Fest areas.
The third annual Coulee Fest is a free family festival that invites the entire community to take part in live music, interactive program showcases, food trucks, family fun area, What the Junk vintage market and a beer gardens.
Coulee Fest runs from 1 to 7 p.m. on Lethbridge College's east lawn. The interactive activities run from 1 to 5 p.m. and the festivities will conclude with a headlining concert by award-winning singersongwriter Leeroy Stagger at 6 p.m.
