Horns hockey facing the Cougars

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns hockey teams are in a home-and-home series this weekend, while the basketball teams hit the road.

The Horns women’s hockey team is at Nicholas Sheran Arena as they host the Mount Royal University Cougars in Canada West play tonight at 7 p.m.

The men’s team starts on the road in Calgary before bringing the weekend series to Nicholas Sheran Arena Saturday at 7 p.m.

On the court, the Pronghorns men’s and women’s teams are in Brandon tonight and Saturday to face the Bobcats.

The Pronghorns women’s hockey team heads into the weekend at 5-2-0-1, but on their bye weekend last weekend the UBC Thunderbirds and the Calgary Dinos passed them for first in the Canada West.

Third-year forwards Kyra Greig and Alli Borrow lead the Horns with seven points each. Greig leads the team with four goals and Borrow is tied for second in Canada West with seven assists.

First-year forward Madison Porter is second among Canada West rookies with three goals and five points.

Senior goaltender Alicia Anderson has started seven of eight games and has a 1.86 goals-against average and a 0.939 save percentage.

On the men’s side, the

Pronghorns look to get out of a four-game losing skid that has dropped them to 3-5-0.

Lethbridge has the topranked penalty killing unit in Canada West at 83.8 per cent. The power play is fifth (21.7 per cent).

Assistant captain Brooks Maxwell leads Pronghorns with three goals and four assists. Defenceman Dallas Valentine is one point back with one goal and six points.

Coming off a weekend split with Alberta Pandas, the Pronghorns women’s basketball team is in Brandon to play the 0-2 Bobcats.

Pronghorns Katie Keith and Amy Mazutinec each picked up a double-double in one of the games against the Pandas. Keith averaged 15 points and 10.5 rebounds in the two games, while Mazutinec sits with 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds.

Game time tonight is 5 p.m. local time and 4 pm. Saturday.

The Pronghorns men started the season at 0-2 against the Alberta Golden Bears.

The Pronghorns averaged 84.5 points last weekend to put them seventh in the conference, but are 15th in team defence averaging 98 points per game.

Pronghorn Scott Mazutinec averaged 19 points and hit on 45.8 per cent from behind the arc.

Game time for the men is 7 p.m. tonight and 6 p.m. Saturday.
