Horns host the Huskies

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s hockey team looks for their first win of the second semester and they’ll face a high-ranked opponent to do it.

The Pronghorns welcome the U SPORTS fourth-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies to Nicholas Sheran Arena in Canada West play tonight at 7 p.m.

Lethbridge is coming off an 0-2 weekend in Regina against the Cougars that drops the Horns to 5-12-1 and one point back of the UBC Thunderbirds for the sixth-and-final playoff spot.

First-year Pronghorn Luke Coleman leads the team with seven goals and 12 points in 18 games.

In the crease, Taz Burman continues his busy year. His 768:20 minutes played are third in the Canada West and he has also faced the most shots with 562. Burman has a 4.30 goals-against average and a 0.902 save percentage.

The Huskies swept the Pronghorns in the first semester with 8-3 and 5-0 wins.

Saskatchewan is 12-4-2 and in third place in the Canada West, two points back of the 13-3-2 Calgary Dinos and four back of the Alberta Golden Bears (15-3-0).

Huskies Collin Shirley has five goals and 17 points in 18 games to lead Saskatchewan. He is also tied for fifth in Canada West scoring.

The Pronghorns and Huskies complete their weekend series Saturday at 7 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

The Pronghorns women head to Saskatoon this weekend to face the Huskies, starting tonight at 6, local time.

Lethbridge is coming off a one-point weekend after a shootout and regulation loss to the Cougars last weekend at Nicholas Sheran that puts them at 6-8-1-3, but still in sixth place and three points up on the Cougars.

In a tight Canada West standings, the Pronghorns are only six points back of the Huskies (8-6-1-3) for third.

Third-year forward Kyra Greig leads the Pronghorns with five goals and 13 points. Alli Borrow is second with 11 points.

Fifth-year goaltender Alicia Anderson has a 2.27 goalsagainst average and a 0.929 save percentage in 16 games.

The Horns are third in the Canada West in goals scored with 34, but the 46 they’ve allowed has them in eighth.

For the Huskies, Bailee Bourassa leads the team with eight goals and 14 points in 18 games.

Goaltender Jessica Vance has a 7-3-2-0 record and 1.41 goals-against average and .936 save percentage.

The Pronghorns and Huskies are back at it Saturday at 6 p.m.
