Kodiak men 1-1 in Red Deer

On the plus side, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team ended their weekend with a little payback courtesy a 3-0 win.

On the downside, they started the weekend on the receiving end of a similar result and for that the Kodiaks come away with a 1-1 weekend following a split with the Red Deer Kings in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play Friday and Saturday in Red Deer.

The Kodiaks headed out of town with a 3-0 win Saturday afternoon that puts the team at 11-3, but didn’t have the first weekend of the second semester they were looking for as the Kings posted a 3-0 blanking Friday night.

On the women’s side, the Kodiaks were downed 3-0 both nights and are 2-12 this season.

In the men’s game Saturday afternoon, the Kodiaks won a close first set 25-23 and then notched 2520 and 25-15 wins in the third and fourth sets.

Carter Hansen pounded 12 kills and three service aces and Quinn Buchanan added nine. Malcolm Fisher had five digs and Michael Hummel had two service aces.

The Kodiaks women’s team was defeated 25-15, 25-21 and 25-19 Saturday as Mack Lewicki had eight kills and six digs and Jamie Brown chipped in with seven kills and three digs.

LeeAnne Arnott had three service aces for Lethbridge Saturday.

The Kodiaks return to the Val Matteotti Gymnasium Friday and Saturday when the Olds Broncos pay a visit.

Game time Friday night is 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men. On Saturday, the women’s game is at 1 p.m. with the men following at 3 p.m.
