Copperheads split again
For the second straight week the Coaldale Copperheads put up a 1-1 weekend.
The Copperheads earned a home ice win with a 3-1 decision over the Lomond Lakers Saturday night at the Coaldale Sportsplex, but were defeated 7-5 by the Cochrane Generals Sunday night in Cochrane.
With the .500 weekend, the Copperheads drop to fourth in the Southern Division at 20-11-1, one point behind the 20-8-2 Generals and the Medicine Hat Cubs.
On Saturday in Coaldale, the Copperheads snapped a 1-1 tie on goals from Tyler Anderson and Jayden Bexte. Isiah Day Chief scored in the first period for Coaldale, while, goaltender Ethan Barrows made 24 saves.
The Copperheads were rung up for five first period goals Sunday as the Generals grabbed a commanding 5-2 lead.
Isaac Benoit, Jaren Bainbridge, Bexte, Brandyn Howg and Thomas Johnson scored for the Copperheads.
Anderson and Ty Abbott each had two assists.
Barrows took the loss, turning aside 29 of 36 shots.
The Copperheads are on the road this weekend. They’re in Red Deer to take on the Vipers Saturday at 8 p.m. and head to Ponoka Sunday to play the Stampeders at 3 p.m.
Coaldale’s next home game is Jan. 25 against the Okotoks Bisons at 8:30 p.m.
