As they head into the second half of their 2019-2020 Canada West season, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s hockey team continues to prepare for 2020-21.

On Friday, the Pronghorns announced the signing of sisters and left wingers Abby and Alli Soyko from Nothern Alberta Extreme of Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

Originally hailing from Prince Albert, Sask., the Soyko sisters are in their first year with NAX in Edmonton after playing for the Prince Albert Northern Bears in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA league.

This season with NAX, Abby has seven goals 14 points in 15 games.

During her time in the SFMAAAHL, she was named a league all-star three times and was twice the Prince Albert Bears leading scorer and was team captain last season. Abby also represented Team Saskatchewan at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer and was part of Team Saskatchewan’s sixth-place finish. She recorded a goal during the tournament.

Alli has three goals and five assists this season with NAX in 14 games. She was named the Most Sportsmanlike Player last season.

With the Northern Bears, the Soykos were members of the 2016-17 SFMAAAHL championship team that finished fourth at the ESSO Cup that year. The Bears were also a Mac’s Midget Tournament finalist in 2017.

The commitment of the Soyko sisters pushes the programs 2020-21 recruiting class to five following earlier commitments Maddy Noonan, Emma Neff and Mallory Dyer.
