LCI hands out awards

Lethbridge Collegiate Institute recently honoured its athletes with athletic awards for 2020.

David Kindley and Annah Westrop led the way being honoured as male and female athletes of the year respective­ly.

Kindley was presented with the Jim Whitelaw Award as male athlete of the year. Kindley was named most valuable player of the Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League this past season, leading the Rams to three straight zone championsh­ips as a starter each season. He has accepted a scholarshi­p to play volleyball at the University of Waterloo.

Kindley is also an outstandin­g basketball player, playing any position called upon with the Rams.

Westrop was presented with the Marj Clarke Award as female athlete of the year. The graduating senior has been a key component of the Clippers basketball and volleyball programs for four years while also being an integral part of the school’s girls’ rugby team, having started since Grade 10.

Owen Stewart was named Male Grade 12 Athlete of the Year while also receiving the Gerry and Brian Stewart Award and Pat Adams Memorial Scholarshi­p.

Maddi Boehme was honoured as Female Grade 12 Athlete of the Year for her efforts in volleyball, basketball and cross-country.

Asher Bridge was named Grade 11 Male Athlete of the Year, competing in basketball, football and cross-country while Brinna Jacobs was Female Grade 11 Athlete of the Year competing in volleyball and basketball.

Presley Heggie was named Female Grade 10 Athlete of the Year as a three-sport competitor for volleyball, basketball and cross-country while Crew Hirsche was Male Grade 10 Athlete of the Year for his efforts in basketball and football.

The Female Grade 9 Athlete of the Year was Kallynne Klimpke while Blake Van Bruggen was Male Grade 9 Athlete of the Year.

Hannah Stewart was awarded the Pat Adams Memorial Scholarshi­p for the time and effort she placed into supporting events for the LCI student body.

Joel Pollock received the Male Green 2 Gold Athletic Award for his display of growth, grit, respect, responsibi­lity and empathy throughout his time at LCI. The five characteri­stics must be present through academics and athletics.

The Female Green 2 Gold Athletic Award recipient was Shayla Sheen.

Darby Scott received the Competitor­s Courage Award while Noah Evans received the Brock Ramius Scholarshi­p Award.
