A 23-year-old woman sentenced last month to three months in jail for several criminal offences, is waiting to be sentenced again for additional offences, including robbery.

Cheyenne Sommerley Tilley pleaded guilty Tuesday in Lethbridge provincial court to the robbery charge, as well as four counts of breaching conditions of a conditional sentence order on which she was placed March 6, 2020.

Court was told Tilley was not in her Raymond residence on three occasions last March, contrary to conditions of her conditional sentence.

On March 11, barely a week into her CSO, she committed a robbery at the Lethbridge Public Library, and four days later she was involved in a hitand-run collision in Lethbridge. Then on March 29 she was caught in Cranbrook, B.C.

The fourth breach of her CSO was for failing to report to her probation officer over several months.

Tilley was charged with robbery after she attempted to steal a laptop computer from the library during a film festival.

Tilley grabbed the computer and tried to conceal it under her arm, then grabbed a couple cups of hot coffee and left the room. She was confronted by one of the organizers, however, a 73-year-old woman, who explained the laptop belonged to the library.

Tilley claimed it was hers, and when the older woman argued with her, Tilley threw the hot coffee in her face, causing first-degree burns.

As Tilley fled upstairs she was confronted by a 78-year-old woman, at whom Tilley threw the second cup of hot coffee.

A security guard heard the commotion and managed to wrestle the laptop away from Tilley before she ran away.

The incident was caught on video surveillance, and the police officer investigating the matter recognized Tilley when her mother brought her to the police station four days later to report a hit and run her daughter had been involved in using her mother’s vehicle.

Tilley, who appeared in court Tuesday by CCTV from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, is scheduled to return to court April 19 for a sentencing hearing.

The adjournment was requested by defence to allow time for the preparation of a pre-sentence report and

Gladue report.

Both reports will provide detailed information about the accused’s personal circumstances and aboriginal background to help the judge determine a fit sentence.
