Bow island golf club has seen a big return of golfers

The Bow Island Golf Club has been opened since mid-March and has seen a steady stream of golfers hit the first tee to open the 2021 season.

“We’ve got a good start under our belts this year,” said Nick Weisgerber, Golf Club general manager.

“I think last year was a good indicator that golf can be done safely in these times and there’s (a) lot of people that jumped back into golf even if they have been away for a little while.”

Weisgerber said the club has seen ‘a big return to golf’ with an influx of new customers and returning customers and providing a service for them.

“A lot of people have rediscovered golf, so it’s good to see,” said Weisgerber.

Weisgerber believes there are many benefits to having the early start this year.

“It’s a huge benefit to the club— just even if just getting people thinking about golf early in the season,” he said.

“Obviously there’s financial benefit to that. But just having people golfing for an extra month and a half (already) compared to last year, a lot of people are getting into it earlier and playing more.”

Protocols include that golfers must book a tee time to allow the golf club to schedule when people are arriving, sanitizing is done regularly on all major touch points and flag sticks are not to be touched. Bunker rakes, benches and ball washers remain removed from the course.

Weisgerber says the club is seeing an increase in memberships this year.

Leagues are expected to start at the end of

April and junior programs in

June.
