Man has stolen property charges withdrawn, $28,000 returned

Charges against a Toronto man who was arrested last year following a police bust in the city, have been withdrawn.

During a brief hearing last week in Lethbridge provincial court, the federal Crown prosecutor withdrew charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and failure to comply with release conditions against Abdulkadir Yusuf.

The Crown said he reviewed the eight-month-old case, and determined there was “no prospect of conviction.”

Police charged two men after a significant amount of money and a weapon were seized during the raid Oct. 29. Officers searched two westside apartment complexes, and at an apartment in the Garry Station area, they seized more than $28,000 cash. They also seized a Taser at an apartment complex in the Berkley Place area.

Yusuf, 29, was arrested but released shortly afterward following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing. The breach charges stemmed from matters out of Regina, Sask.

During Thursday’s hearing, the $28,000 seized during the raids was returned to Yusuf.
