WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK SEVERAL VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

-

Waterton National Park where the prairies of Alberta meet the peaks of the Rocky Mountains is looking for volunteers for the Shoreline Cleanup at Cameron Lake for September 11. This semi-annual cleanup and discovery of the trend of less litter along the scenic shoreline of Cameron Lake is continuing. You’ll be a citizen scientist as what is collected will be recorded and reported, including the most unusual items you come across. Adopt-a-Patch (invasive weed removal), is a program where volunteers care for their patch by keeping it clear of spotted knapweed. This opportunity is great for those who like to have flexibility in their volunteering schedule. Once you have had a virtual orientation and gotten your equipment kit (yours to borrow for as long as you’re working on the project), you can come work on your patch whenever you would like, for as long as you would like. This project runs for as long as the weather permits, likely into October. Wildflower and Native Grasses Seed Collection takes place Wednesdays, July 7 – August 25 and Sunday July 25, 8:30 to noon. This is an ideal way to spend a morning in Waterton Lakes National Park and assist with the foundation of our vegetation restoration projects – collecting native seed. Whether you know nothing about plants or are an experienced botanist, this is a great opportunity to work with Parks Canada staff in some of the less visited places and to get to know and enjoy some of the diverse native flora. FREE park entry for the day when you volunteer. For more info phone 403-859-2224 or visit volunteerconnector.org or email: pc.wlnpvolunteer.pc@canada.ca
