MODERN DAY GIANT ON THE PRAIRIE LANDSCAPE
The prairie grain elevator, that iconic symbol of the western Canadian landscape, has nearly disappeared. For more than a century, the vertical grain elevator provided a sharp contrast to an otherwise horizontal prairie panorama. In the last few years, however, a replacement has emerged in the form of the slimmer but much taller wind turbine. A number of these structures are being erected by giant cranes between the existing McBride Lake Wind Farm and Glenwood. In the process, the balance between vertical and horizontal perspectives is being restored.
