Kodiaks see great success

Lethbridge College Kodiaks teams saw plenty of successful results over the weekend.

Indoor track

In just their second meet of the season at the University of Alberta’s Pandas Open, the indoor track team had record setting performanc­es from some of their athletes.

Gunnarr Gibb began the weekend by running the 300-metre dash race in a time of 36.99 to break a seven-year-old record.

Gibb also helped the 4x200 relay open team win a gold medal with a time of 1:37.57, which was a new school and conference record

Cooper Williams improved school records in the 1,000-metre dash(2:34.40) and the 1,500-metre (4:02.63).

Williams won gold in both of those competitio­ns. Logan Danyluk won bronze in the 600-metre dash.

Volleyball

The volleyball teams split their games with the University of Alberta- Augustana Vikings on Friday.

The women’s team ended their regular season with a three-set sweep at the hands of the Vikings (14-25, 1925, 21-25). Jamie Brown led the offence with 11 kills.

The team finished third in the south division with a 10-9 record and will host the Medicine Hat Rattlers in a play-in game on Friday night at 6 p.m. to determine who go to the league championsh­ip tournament i n Red Deer on Feb. 23-25.

As for the men, they swept the Vikings in three sets (25-20, 25-14, 25-22) and finished second in the south division with a 15-4 record.

Shaye Wall led the attack with a .643 kill percentage and 10 kills alone.

They will have a couple of weeks off until the ACAC championsh­ip in Fort McMurray from Feb. 23-25.

Basketball

The men’s team (16-3) clinched first place in the South Division and in the ACAC championsh­ip with an 85-63 win over the Vikings on Friday night.

Filip Karanovic had 23 points to pace the offence while Paycen Blackmore had 15 points.

The ACAC championsh­ip will begin March 2 in Calgary.

The women’s (13-6) team also beat the Vikings 7864 on home court.

Tylee Leavitt put up 20 points while Courtney Deemter and Kitawna Sparks both had 17 points in the win.

Both teams will finish the regular season at Keyano
