What’s new at the Lethbridge Public Library

- Jonathan Jarvie

The weather is getting warmer every day and we all know what that means: camping season is upon us!

Whether you are heading to your favourite campground or heading out into the woods, make sure you stop by Lethbridge Public Library and find a book to take you with you. With new books arriving weekly, you’re sure to find something to help you relax. Here are some of our latest additions:

“Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros. The commanding general - also known as her tough-as-talons mother - has ordered 20-yearold Violet Sorrengail to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. With every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret. [From the publisher].

“The Shadows of London” by Andrew Taylor. London, 1671. When a man’s brutally disfigured body is discovered in the ruins of an ancient almshouse, architect Cat Hakesby is ordered to stop restoration work. It is obvious he has been murdered, and Whitehall secretary James Marwood is ordered to investigate. Marwood soon begins to suspect the murder trail may lead right to the heart of the government. Meanwhile, a young, impoverished Frenchwoman has caught the eye of the king, a quiet affair that will have monumental consequences. [From the publisher].

“Where Waters Meet” by Zhang Ling. There was rarely a time when Phoenix Yuan-Whyller’s mother, Rain, didn’t live with her. Struggling with the loss after Rain’s unexpected death, Phoenix comes across her mother’s suitcase. Inside, are two old photographs and a decorative bottle holding a crystallized powder.

Her auntie Mei tells her these missing pieces of her mother’s early life can only be explained when they meet, and so, Phoenix boards a plane for China. What at first seems like a daughter’s quest to uncover a mother’s secrets becomes a startling journey of self-discovery. [From the publisher].

“Tress of the Emerald Sea” by Brandon Sanderson. The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emeraldgreen ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death? [From the publisher].
