‘Perfect blend of romance and comedy’ for the long weekend

-

This week we are excited to premiere a new romantic comedy called “What’s Love Got to Do With it.” This film stars Lily James (“Downton Abbey,” “Cinderella”), Shazad Latif (“The Second-Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”), and Emma Thompson (“Sense and Sensibility,” “Henry V”). It is rated PG and has a running time of 90 minutes.

My wife was able to prescreen this movie and absolutely loved it. She thought it was a perfect blend of romance and comedy without being raunchy – which is a rare combination these days! Do not just take her word for it, this movie also has a 93% audience score on rotten tomatoes.

“How do you find lasting love in today’s world? For documentarymaker and dating app addict Zoe (Lily James), swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr. Wrongs, to her eccentric mother Cath’s (Emma Thompson) dismay. For Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbor Kaz (Shazad Latif ), the answer is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films his hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger, chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.” – LevelFILM.

A few other films also appear this weekend. “Sisu” (if you liked John Wick or are just an action junkie you will enjoy this film), “The Popes Exorcist” (a ‘holy horror’ starring Russell Crowe), and “Evil Dead Rises” (new gory addition to the cult classic franchise).

If you are looking for an action movie this weekend, “Sisu” has you covered. This movie is bloody fun from start to finish. It has a running time of 91 minutes and is rated 14A for with a brutal violence and gory scenes warning.

“During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with Nazis on a scorchedearth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner. While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, this legendary ex-commando will embody what sisu means: a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. And no matter what the Nazis throw at him, the one-man death squad will go to outrageous lengths to get his gold back -- even if it means killing every Nazi in his path.” – Cineplex Films
