New films and features for Family Day weekend at the theatre

-

Episodes 4,5 and 6 of the series “The Chosen” began yesterday and will play daily at 12:0 and 6:0pm until February 28. This has been a well attended and highly acclaimed imagination of the life of Jesus – speaking of which apparently a lot of money was spent advertising during this past weekend’s Superbowl – there were at least two ads promoting him!

Two Oscar nominated pictures open this weekend, the first being its debut onto screens in Lethbridge – “Zone of Interest.” The second played for a few weeks, but did not receive its award attention until recently, “Poor Things.” A third film “ISS” opens as well.

“The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.” – “Zone of Interest” - Elevation Films.

“From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

– “Poor Things” – Fox Searchlight.

“Tensions flare in the near future aboard the International Space Station as a worldwide conflict breaks out on Earth. Reeling from this, the astronauts receive orders from the ground: take control of the station by any means necessary.” – “ISS” – Elevation Pictures.

This Monday sees Family Day in Alberta, and for many students spells a week away from the classroom. We are bringing back a family favorite in “Super Mario Bros” for the kids, as well as extra showings of our family product during the day on Monday. Speaking of Monday, or Sunday night, it is our first Midnight at the Mill of the year. A lot of great films beginning just before midnight Sunday for those that can stay awake and sleep in on the holiday Monday. As always check our website for times and details (www.moviemill.com).

Allow us to entertain you!
