ROASTS AND TOASTS

-

ROAST: To the new Exhibition Park building. We tried going to an event and from terrible parking to overinflated prices for food, we won’t be back.

ROAST: It’s time the City of Lethbridge follow other big companies. Most are telling their staff they must work a minimum three days in their office. These large corporations monitor their calls and see the level of service has dropped at home versus when they worked in their offices. I speak to over seven different call centres weekly with my work and I can tell that the city service doesn’t make the grade. I called in four times last year for someone to respond to my concern over a matter where I had to pay to get something done by the City and never got a single call back.

TOAST: To Service Canada. My spouse and I just renewed our passports before Christmas and it was so easy. We downloaded and filled in the forms on the website and took them the next day to the Service Canada office. We applied for 10-year passports and it took all of 45 minutes. We got them one week later by priority mail well before our next trip.

TOAST: To Barry Harper’s letter “New city snow removal route policy doesn’t work.” Bravo to such an impressive and well expressed and written summary of the reasons, events and consequences of the result of this policy! And the recommendation to return to mid-road removal of snow.

ROAST: To decisions that were made without any public feedback.

ROAST: To the City of Lethbridge. My utility bill just went up $90 since last month to a whopping $335.

TOAST: To UCP for giving the parents the right to make decisions for their children. This is not a transgender issue but a parent right issue.

ROAST: To the new Board of Exhibition Park. Based on the 2021 pay on the City website the Community Services Director is getting $104/hr and the City Manager $155/hr (more by now) to oversee a non-profit, something neither of them has any expertise in. Overspending and lack of expertise created this expensive mess.

ROAST: To the chiropractic office. It used to be such a happy place where those that worked there interacted with the patients. Now the girls behind the desk just talk to each other and barely acknowledge the people in the waiting room! I would leave, but the chiropractor is too good!

ROAST: To City Hall for wasting time designing the Mighty Neighbours Inspiring Heroes project.

ROAST: To the federal minister of Environment in his climate change and green energy crusade. Does he believe Canadians are so simple as to believe a name change will cure the problem?

TOAST: To Danielle Smith for her gender I.D. position. Children have not mentally, nor sexually, developed to be making those kinds of decisions at a young age. Parents should be encouraging them to wait until they are adults. A child cannot vote, cannot drink alcohol, cannot get a TFSA, cannot serve as an executor of an estate, or many other government mandates. There are reasons for that – they have not reached a level of mental maturity to handle those kinds of responsible decision making.

ROAST: To Donald Trump. Trump is not a human cannonball but a human wrecking ball.

The USA Justice system is broken and their political system is also broken. Trump is making a mockery of both. Unfortunately, the UCP in Alberta is following in his wake!

ROAST: To the City of Lethbridge and Exhibition board for the appointment of your new CEO.

ROAST: To the Federal Court for overturning the decision by Ottawa on open-pit coal mining in the Pass. Financial interests shouldn’t come before the environment, regardless of who benefits. This is outrageous.

TOAST: To the Herald for your story about the real impact of carbon dioxide. Everybody needs to read this story!

ROAST: To the light sentences handed out to the Coutts duo. Looks like the justice department caved in. Hope there was no interference by the provincial government.

ROAST: To the Liberals for renaming the carbon tax. It’s the same thing. Time for Trudeau to go!

TOAST: To Volunteer Lethbridge and Amanda Jensen for all you do for our community. Great organization with great leadership.

ROAST: To Valentine’s Day.

It’s just a racket to sell cards and candy. There are other ways to show affection besides lining the profits of corporate Canada.

TOAST: To Shannon Phillips for all she does for our city. This is who the NDP needs running the party because she would right the sinking ship that Alberta is under the UCP. Shannon knows what the problems are and how to fix them. Please Shannon, join the race!

ROAST: To the person tailgating me on Whoop-Up Drive during the snowstorm! Your big 4X4 isn’t going to stop you from losing control on the ice but it will cause an accident if you don’t quit being a bully.

ROAST: To people who think it’s cute to put apples and other stuff out for all the deer hanging around our neighbourhoods. Somebody’s child is going to get hurt if they think one of those is tame enough to try petting. You’re not doing the deer population a favour by making them reliant on human handouts to survive the winter. They’ve managed a long time to get by without you.

ROAST: To the loud racket thumping out of so many cars at stop lights. That is so annoying and it’s a distraction. Quit trying to draw attention to you and your little souped up cars. Nobody cares and nobody wants to hear that noise except maybe your drug customers.
