ROASTS AND TOASTS

-

TOAST: To the new bike lanes downtown! I can’t wait to ride downtown this summer and do some shopping and visit the wonderful cafes. Although the downtown does feel like its making strides in safety, I would like some bike storage (not just racks) with some art on them to feel more confident leaving my bike while shopping.

ROAST: Sorry mayor Blaine Hyggen I don’t agree with your analogy regarding volunteer board members. My 20 years experience in property management, accounting, land and building acquisition, construction experience and real estate didn’t get a sniff during an interview for a volunteer position on the Housing Board. A bus driver and homemaker were two of the applicants chosen. A lot of experience there.

TOAST: To Phil Burpee’s letter to the editor, Herald, Friday Feb. 23. This is a “must read” that kept me laughing all day.

ROAST: To LPS for still not enforcing our noise bylaws. It appears that the smaller the car, the noisier the exhaust has to be; not to mention the redneck diesel pickups with their noisy and stinking exhausts.

ROAST: To the mayor and a member of council who treated members of our community horribly for pointing out some errors that were made by council. ROAST to politicians who try to pretend they never make mistakes. We all make mistakes. Apologize, learn from it and move on. At least that’s what most of us teach our children.

ROAST: To the waste of time and money that this “lawlessness” task force is.

TOAST: To the cable technician who came to my house on a service call. He was professional, courteous and worked diligently to solve the problem. He took the time to ensure all of my electrical devices were working okay before he left my home. In the world today when service has become a thing of the past he was a breath of fresh air and an employee that should be commended for his work ethic.

ROAST: There is so much concern and focus on internet harm done to teens etc. instead of attempting to try to police the internet why not have the parents take away the phones and stop paying for the subscriptions for the use of their kids phones.

ROAST: To Trudeau for coming to our province and only going to Edmonton to meet with the mayor and then flying out as fast as he can. How much carbon was produced to pull off that stunt?

ROAST: To the federal government for failing to invite the Alberta government to the announcement of a housing program. Instead the PM chose to have his local Liberal lackeys on site. His ongoing treatment of Alberta is typical of past actions and should remove any doubt about who to vote for. TOAST: to the town of Westlock.

TOAST: To all who agree that the proposed new twin arena for the northside should be named after a native son, famous hockey player and coach, member of the “Uke” line on teams that were Stanley Cup winners. When he retired he coached kids hockey, contributed greatly and is well deserving. I watched Vic when he was young and playing at the 16 Street North rink. A great choice.

TOAST: To Phil Burpee’s letter of Friday, Feb. 23! So funny yet makes a bunch of sense!

ROAST: To Alberta for planning to stay out of the national pharmacare program. Do you not care about anything except oil and gas?

TOAST: To the town of Westlock for voting to fly only federal, municipal and provincial flags, and not to paint crosswalks different colours for specific groups. TOAST: To Tariq Hadhad as speaker at the teachers convention. “Being a refugee changes your future Everyone has two options in life when facing challenges. One is to sit down, complain and don’t do anything and the other is find solutions.” We all can learn from that no matter what colour our skin is and whatever challenge has happened to us.

ROAST: To the UCP with special mention going to Brian Jean. They have directed the AER to re-open the permit application from Benga/Northback holdings and convene public hearings on open pit coal mining. Didn’t we just go through an extensive and expensive public consultation on this very issue?

ROAST: To Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government for not complying with our commitment to NATO and thereby letting down our Ukrainian friends.

TOAST: To Westlock for showing some spine.

ROAST: To Brian Jean and Nathan Neudorf and the rest of the UCP: Why are you thinking that the Grassy Mountain proposal should be considered? Have you even seen the low levels of our water here in Southern Alberta? Nathan, we elected you to look out for us. Please do something. Where do you get your water from?

ROAST: To you who say you’re proud to be Canadian. Nothing to be proud of if you’re transgender or another visible minority who struggles to get acceptance on this land that was stolen from its original inhabitants.
