McLachlan shows well at NFL combine

Local football player Tanner McLachlan had taken another huge step in his chase for a spot on an NFL roster in the near future.

The now former University of Arizona tight end participated in the NFL combine recently.

“I really enjoyed my time there being around some of the best collegiate level players and being around some NFL GMs, head coaches, scouts and what not as well,” said McLachlan.

His time of 4.61 in the 40-yard dash with other tight ends was top three at the combine.

“I was moving pretty good, I was pretty happy with it,” he said.

The combine gave McLachlan a chance to showcase his skills.

“It was an opportunity to showcase my abilities, my talents and then also an opportunity to be in front of all 32 NFL teams,” said McLachlan.

“I felt like I matched up pretty well against all the other tight ends. I had some good things, some bad things that coaches liked (and) didn’t like.”

McLachlan thought it was nerve-wracking being around NFL team brass.

“But I think that’s to be expected. It brought some stress into my life as well ,but a good stress,” he said. He met with all 32 teams.

“(I)felt really good about most of the conversations (and) just hearing everyone out, (and) getting to know some teams better than others and continuing to enjoy the process,” he said.

He heard consistently that teams enjoyed his speed and his play making abilities.

He has his Pro Day tomorrow where he will continue to showcase his abilities.

“I’m in constant conversation with NFL teams each week,” he said.

McLachlan is currently back in Tucson training in preparation for rookie mini camps in May.

The NFL Draft is April 25-27.

He declined to go to last month’s Senior Bowl due to dealing with an injury he sustained during the season.
