Southern Alberta wrestlers shine at provincial­s

Southern Alberta High School Wrestling teams made a very impressive showing at the ASAA Wrestling Provincial Tournament at McNally High School in Calgary this past weekend.

There were 320 wrestlers representi­ng 79 different Alberta High School teams at the pinnacle tournament of the season. Impressive­ly, Stirling clinched the 1A/2A Boys ASAA provincial banner with 13 team points Raymond won the ASAA 1A/2A Girls ASAA provincial banner with 29 team points. WR Myers in Taber came second place in the 3A category with 11 points, just one point behind Vimy Ridge Academy narrowly missing taking home the ASAA 3A Banner. Cardston came 3rd in the 3A category with 9 team points. LCI earned 30 team points which put them in 4th place, missing the ASAA 4A Banner, which went to Lester B Pearson High School. Medicine Hat earned 18 team points also in the 4A category.

In addition to the two ASAA Wrestling banners that will be hanging in Stirling and Raymond gyms for spectators to admire, individual grapplers brought home several top medals out of the 320 top wrestlers in the province. The top 5 wrestlers in each of the 3 zones: Edmonton, Calgary, and Rural Alberta, qualify to compete in the ASAA Provincial Final.
