Comets to play for a provincial title in Red Deer
There will be some local-area flavour in the ASAA 4A Provincials basketball finals in Red Deer today.
The girls final will have the Raymond Comets play Western Canada at 5.pm. today
The Comets senior girls played in one semi-final against Foothills Composite and beat them 105-63 on Friday.
Raymond got to a semi-final after a convincing 90-57 quarterfinal win over Lindsay Thurber and an 84-23 win over Huntington Hills earlier in their opening game on Thursday.
LCI Clippers played Western Canada in the other semi-final on Friday and lost 81-80 and will play Foothills for bronze today at 1 p.m.
The Clippers road through the provincial tournament included a 76-61win over St. Mary’ s in the quarterfinals and a 90-25 opening win over Charles Spencer on Thursday.
The Magrath Pandas run ended after a quarterfinal loss to Foothills Composite.
As for the Raymond boys, they played St. Mary’s in a semi-final and lost 87-65 on Friday and play for bronze against Western Canada today at 3 p.m.
St. FX will play St. Mary’s for the provincial banner.
The Comet boys path through the tournament included an 84-71 quarterfinal win over Archbishop O’Leary and an opening game 85 -63 win over St. Joseph’s on Thursday.
The Magrath Zeniths bowed out of the tournament after a 99-76 quarterfinal loss to St. Mary’s on Thursday.
The LCI boys lost their first game 76-53 on Thursday and sending them to the consolation side where then they ousted Ross Sheppard with a 68-63 win to send them to a semi-final in that bracket on Friday night against Jasper Place.
