ROASTS AND TOASTS

-

ROAST: To the organizers of the women’s world curling championship. Whoever was responsible for having large numbers of young children attending some games and encouraging a constant din of noise and confusion in the rink should be immediately replaced and admonished. While this may have been perceived as a way of introducing youngsters to the game, it fails miserably.

TOAST: Bicycle lanes on our roadways are a super idea. Don’t you think a road tax on bicycles to help with upkeep is fair? This could happen in a form of bicycle licenses.

ROAST: To so called “churches” that mislead their flocks by preaching a super highway leading straight into heaven, where everyone’s welcome no matter what choices they made in life.

TOAST: To the kindness of strangers: the man who offered to tow my van up the icy hill at Popson Park, Marie who gave my dog and I a ride home and TNT towing who retrieved my van via AMA.

TOAST: To the city snow crews for the efficient work in the face of such unusually heavy snowfalls.

ROAST: To those who have been claiming there is about to be extensive starvation in Gaza for hundreds of thousands of people, this has been going on for months and is continually repeated by UN representatives. To date I have neither seen or heard of any legitimate deaths due to starvation; no doubt there is inconvenience and shortages but continually calling wolf fails to resonate.

ROAST: To the City for not listening to the people about the snow removal. Stop putting snow in front of my driveway so I cannot get out. Get your self over here and shovel it.

ROAST: To Premier Smith for charging electric vehicle owners $200 per year for road maintenance. She should be paying EV owners $200 per year for helping to keep the air we all breathe clean!

ROAST: To Premier Smith for dictating to landowners what they can and cannot do with their land. If landowners wish to plant solar panels and wind turbines to harvest the sun and the wind that should be their prerogative!

ROAST: It is wonderful to hear that while most of southern Alberta has only enough water to flush our toilets once a week, the Town of Raymond will be able to hose off their driveways, water their lawns and gardens and wash their cars with no fear of water shortage.

ROAST: To the Liberals and the NDP for their continued efforts to tax business, the wealthy and the middle class in order to curry favour with the parasites in our society and those who have no ability or desire to manage their finances. At the rate we are going soon there will be no middle class or small businesses to carry the load.

ROAST: To Danielle Smith for her hotel medicine. Me thinks she protests too much. Too little, too late!

TOAST: To council for supporting Green Shirt Day. Kudos to the Boulet family for all they have done since the tragic loss of their son and so many other innocent victims of that bus crash.

TOAST: To everyone who helped others during the snowstorm. We seniors on my block sure appreciate all the help shovelling.

ROAST: To all the stores that opened on Good Friday. The day Christ died on the cross for all our sins is no day to go shopping! Shame!

ROAST: So who’s going to pay if we have to replace the Enmax Centre? Maybe that idea needs to be rethought until the Hub is paid off. Those expensive renovations that were already done didn’t do anything to make the seats more comfortable. City council might want to leave this one alone for the next council to deal with.

ROAST: To the UCP for not ensuring people needing care were actually getting it. This is another reason why we need to vote for the NDP.

TOAST: To everyone who recognizes Easter for what it is, the crucifixion and resurrection of the Saviour. It’s a time to praise God for bringing the Lord to this earth, It’s not about bunnies and chocolate eggs. Parents should teach their children better.

TOAST: To Al Beeber for his article on the Enmax Centre and his desire to keep the Lethbridge taxpayers informed.

ROAST to the City for not giving full disclosure on current and expected net revenues (or likely a loss) from operating the Enmax. One could easily argue that this lack of disclosure as well as ignoring the expense side of the profit equation is the same disregard for financial information that led to the Exhibition woes. I’m sure it is a deficit. All this financial ignorance is a slap in the face to taxpayers. We need to do the math. Also a ROAST to the City for not planning more seating with the previous renovation.
