If you blinked it, you probably missed it. Only one item was on the public agenda Tuesday for Lethbridge city council to discuss, an urgent official business motion calling for the change in date of an upcoming Standing Policy Committee meeting.

With three members of council scheduled to be away, the Economic and Finance SPC of council will meet on Tuesday, May 7 instead of two days later as originally scheduled.

Five reports of SPCs were approved unanimously during the consent agenda.

Two committee meetings are scheduled for Thursday, including one of the Downtown Lawlessness Task Force - a sub-committee of the Safety and Social SPC - which meets at 7:30 a.m. in council chambers.

The second meeting Thursday is of the Economic and Finance which meets at 12:30 p.m. that day.

At the task force meeting, general manager of Community Social Development Andrew Malcolm will give an overview of downtown clean safe initiatives while task force chair Hunter Heggie will provide an update.

The SPC will hear five presentations including an update from Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Darrell Mathews on the 2027-30 capital and operating budget.

Mark Svenson, manager of Engineering & Environment, will discuss the City’s water conservation plan and strategy while Tourism Lethbridge CEO Erin Crane will provide a spring update.

(An indepth look at the water report to be presented will be in Thursday’s Herald).

Land Development manager Spencer Croil will address the industrial municipal tax incentive application review and Malcolm will speak on the subject of “advancing community wellbeing and safety - 2024 and beyond.”

Multiple submissions will be made at the SPC meeting including ones on the Chinook Arch regional library system.

Acting CEO of the Lethbridge & District Exhibition Kim Gallucci will provide a monthly financial report of that organization while an update on the Exhibition MOU will be provided by Mathews and Manager of Corporate and Strategic Initiatives Graeme Woods.
