ROASTS AND TOASTS

-

ROAST: to our city council who are charging volunteer non-profit organizations too much for rental space at the Bowman. I doubt that private enterprise would complain if the City would soften their expectations of volunteerrun organizations, which are very active in this City. Please give some credit to the many volunteers who go above and beyond to keep these organizations running, and reduce your rental rate for these spaces.

ROAST: To the Roaster about the Gaza situation. You seem to ignore the Holocaust in which millions of Jews were slaughtered by the Nazis.

To say the Gaza situation “is beyond any evil the world has ever seen” is complete fabrication. What about the innocents who died in Auschwitz and so many other camps? Or who were shot and dumped into ditches just because they were Jewish? Or were used for ghastly experiments just because they were Jewish?

ROAST: To Trudeau and the Liberals regarding the miserly budget for Canada’s military. It’s better than nothing but it further embarrasses us among our NATO allies. The major part of the 20-year allotment is needed now, that we are facing real world problems, not 20 years down the road.

ROAST: To those who think they are clever enough to “conjure up a god who will make us live forever.” The letter to the editor March 23 is good and makes some excellent points. “Killing one person is murder but killing a thousand single-handed makes one a national hero.” Life is not a dream, not even in the Garden of Eden. Death became reality for mankind because of man’s indiscretion in the Garden.

ROAST: To the frequent commenter’s letter about some foods being cheaper. Funny that he never talks about meat and potatoes. The only foods that are cheaper on his short list are factory-grown so their

growth-inducing chemicals are questionable as to their health benefits.

TOAST: To all the wildlife lovers out there but ROAST to the flickers/woodpeckers causing havoc to homes!

ROAST: To the Trudeau government for their continued announcements of spending programs. Who is going to pay for this? As a member of the middle class, I have grown tired of supporting people who fail to operate in a responsible way or think they are entitled.

TOAST: To Tom Yeoman on his letter in the Herald on April 12 “Transgender issue needs more voices heard.” More people have to understand the true outcome on the use of blockers and surgeries being performed and the damage

realized when it is to late. ROAST: To the person on April 11 who said the NDP put Alberta in debt. There were eight consecutive budget deficits from 1987 to 1994. From 2009 to 2020, real per capita spending rose four per cent while revenues fell 21 per cent. The NDP was in power for four years during deficits. Conservatives were in power for the other 14 deficit years. ROAST: To the people who can’t see that Canada only has 1.5 per cent of emissions in the world, and we’re paying carbon tax. ROAST: To the NDP for their coalition with the federal Liberals.

TOAST: To the young lad who walked his bike across Mayor Magrath and 10 Avenue last week instead of riding across as many adults do. I’ve even seen a parent with two children ride across, setting an example for a dangerous and illegal habit.

ROAST: To the wannabe work force. Don’t be fussy, find work (it’s out there), pay taxes and remember to vote. You will feel better about life in general.

TOAST: To Al Beeber’s column on fighting over religion. All fighting is a waste of time. Let’s enjoy life while we have it because it can end too soon too quickly. Be kind to one another and learn to respect each other.

TOAST: To Al Beeber for his column piece, “Arguing over religion has no point.” I don’t always agree with his views

but I do respect them (and will miss them eventually). That said, this piece was bang on. Our minutes on Earth are finite; why waste them bickering over beliefs; that is all religion is: a belief system. Whatever belief gives you the greatest comfort, have at it but in return give others the space to do the same in their own way.

TOAST: To the amazing coverage for the Green Shirt Day Feature in Saturday, April 6th’s Lethbridge Herald. I was so extremely impressed with the lovely representation the Lethbridge Herald did. Keep up the great work!

TOAST: To the lovely angel that saved me on Monday, March 11 when I fell in front of the Penny Coffeehouse. You came to my rescue, put me in your car and took me to the hospital. It is so wonderful of you and I deeply appreciate it! You truly are an angel and I am giving you my heartfelt thank you! See Thursday’s Herald for more Roasts and Toasts, now running twice weekly
