New films, new Movie Mill team bid Binning family farewell

- Leonard Binning Leonard Binning operates the Movie Mill and is a past president of the Motion Picture Theatre Assoc. of Alberta.

We returned from CinemaCon in Las Vegas this past weekend. As is always the case, Hollywood put its best effort to wow and impress theatre owners from around the world. A few advance screenings were presented (of which we are sworn to secrecy!), and there were a few stars on set including Kevin Costner and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson! Lots of upcoming product was presented to fill out the balance of 2024 and well into 2025. The biggest, and most anticipated film was the movie version of the Broadway hit “Wicked.” Universal put on a momentous event complete with color changing tulips as they presented footage from part 1 and part 2 of this amazing looking film. It is safe to say that COVID, the writers strike, and the actors strike and now solidly behind us, and we can look forward to great entertainment going forward!

Four new movies starting with us this week. A comedy from Studio C entitled “Villains Inc.,” a biography by the bane of “The Long Game,” a drama entitled “The Taste of Things” and finally a horror film, “Immaculate.”

“Villains Inc.” is a premiere to southern Alberta and stars Colin Mochrie of ‘Whose Line is it Anyways.’ It is rated PG and is 102 minutes in length. It is scheduled to play daily at 3:50 and 6:50pm.

“After the death of their super powered villainous boss, low-level henchpeople Beatrix, Cain and Harold are left destitute. Beatrix is determined for them to strike out on their own and take over the world by any means necessary.” – Purdie Distribution.

“The Long Game” is also a premiere to the area. This sport (golf ) biography is rated PG and runs 112 minutes. It is scheduled to play daily at 12:50, 6:45 and 9:15pm.

“In 1956, JB Peña and his wife moved to the small town of Del Rio, TX, partly for a job as a school superintendent, but mostly to fulfill JB’s dream of joining the prestigious, all-white Del Rio Country Club. So, when JB is rejected on the basis of his skin color, he is devastated. But his world soon collides with a group of young Latino golf caddies who work at the country club, and JB is inspired by the handmade course the boys built in the country to teach themselves golf. With little experience and even fewer resources, JB convinces the boys to start their own high school golf team, starting them all on a journey where they learn that it takes more than just golf skills to make history. Based on Mustang Miracle by Humberto G. Garcia.” – Renaissance Media.

“The Taste of Things” is one more premiere that looks delicious! It is rated PG with a nudity warning and is 135 minutes in length. It is scheduled to play daily at 12:30 and 3:35pm.

“Cook Eugenie and her boss Dodin grow fond of one another over 20 years, and their romance gives rise to dishes that impress even the world’s most illustrious chefs. When Dodin is faced with Eugenie’s reluctance to commit, he begins to cook for her.” – IFC Films.
