Celebrating Mother’s Day at the library

- Jenny Cofell

Moms are superheroes! They are our ray of sunshine, our rainbow, our sweet ray of happiness. With Mother’s Day right around the corner on Sunday, May 14, help make Mom feel extra special this year by reading her one of these children’s books available at your Lethbridge Public Library (descriptions provided by the publisher):

‘I Sang You Down From the Stars’ by Tasha SpillettSumner (2021). A Native American woman describes how she loved her child before it was born and, throughout her pregnancy, gathered a bundle of gifts to welcome her newborn.

‘One Hug’ by Katrina Moore (2019). A young boy discovers many different kinds of hugs and ways to show love as family members and friends gather to welcome his immigrant relatives from China.

‘Tough Like Mum’ by Lana Button (2021). Kim’s mum is tough. She can deal with unruly customers at the Red Rooster with a snap of her fingers. Kim is tough, too. But Kim is learning that sometimes toughness doesn’t look like what you’d expect.

‘The Strongest Mum’ by Nicola Kent (2018). Little Bear is sure that no one is as strong as his mum. But even mums can get tired and need a helping hand sometimes, as Little Bear learns when Mum takes on one thing too many, with hilarious and heart-warming consequences.

‘Superhero Mom’ by Timothy Knapman (2019). All moms are amazing, and the mom in this story is no exception. She doesn’t wear a cape or fly around, but she runs for the bus so fast it feels like flying; uses her super strength to carry her daughter’s boots, coat, bag, and scooter; and can make bumps and bruises better with just a kiss. Maybe moms really do have superpowers!

‘Welcome to the Party’ by Gabrielle Union (2020). Inspired by the eagerly awaited birth of her daughter, New York Times bestselling author and awardwinning actress Gabrielle Union pens a festive and universal love letter from parents to little ones, perfect for welcoming a baby to the party of life!
