Police lay charges in connection with armed robbery last month

-

Lethbridge Police have charged two males in connection with an armed robbery at a southside convenience store.

On April 12, at approximately 3:40 a.m., police responded to a report of an armed robbery at 7-Eleven along the 400 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South. Video surveillance showed a male subject enter the store, place a bag on the counter and demand cash while pointing a handgun at the clerk.

No money was provided and the male took his bag and left. CCTV footage also showed a second male inside the store, who was determined to be complicit in the robbery. Following further investigation, a witness, who observed the robbery and both men inside the store, reported one of the males attempted to steal her bag and punched her in the parking lot, before the pair fled in a vehicle.

The subjects were later identified by police, and one male was arrested May 1 and the other on May 2. A search warrant was executed at a southside home and police located the suspect vehicle, a BB gun and clothing consistent with what was worn during the robbery.

Kellen Dax Gosselin, 23, of Lethbridge, is charged with robbery, use of an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with a probation order and assault.

Brendan James Maddison, 26, of Lethbridge, is charged with robbery and use of an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence.

Following Judicial Interim Release hearings, both were remanded in custody. Maddison was scheduled to make his first court appearance May 2 and Gosselin May 3.
