ROASTS AND TOASTS

-

TOAST: To Rocky Mountain Turf Club. Spring is here with Derby Day. Thanks for the colourful ad in the Lethbridge Herald. So many events I would have attended, but found out after from submitted photos. Many of us depend on our local newspaper, please use it. A lot of people do not use social media.

ROAST: I go downtown several times a week, at different times of day - and have yet to see a single bicycle using the bike lanes. Originally, I thought they were a great idea! The cyclists I do see on other roads (like University Drive) are clearly out for recreation or training purposes. Here’s hoping the City removes them as soon as practical.

ROAST: To those people complaining about the government cancelling the subsidy for low income transit riders in Edmonton and Calgary. This was appropriate as there is no reason that Albertans living outside those cities should be paying for this as it has no benefit to them at all unless it makes them feel good, and if that is the case they should donate directly.

ROAST: To the federal Opposition leader for rude and derogatory comments. Hardly the sign of someone who thinks he should lead Canada!

ROAST: To the UCP government for trying to politicize municipal elections and nullify the will of the electorate by having the ability to remove elected officials. How about giving the provincial electorate the power to remove Danielle and Nathan before the next election?

ROAST: To the protesters requesting that the universities divest themselves from funding Israel in its war with Hamas. These young ones should instead be putting the pressure on Hamas and the Palestinians who support them. Hamas started this war. What did they expect? For Israel to roll over and ignore what they did? Hamas has to sit down and talk about the hostagesprisoners of war. Are there any hostages alive for Hamas to even negotiate?

ROAST: To the NDP leader who continually criticizes Trudeau’s policies but then votes to back him.

ROAST: Re: the column titled ‘Alberta owes Trudeau a debt of gratitude.’ What the author fails to mention is that it was Trudeau’s draconian ‘No More Pipelines’ bill that caused Enbridge to walk away from the project due to the ridiculous increased costs this bill imposed. Those costs are now apparent.

ROAST: To the NDP for continuing to back Trudeau Liberals on the spending spree that will take our great-great-greatgrandchildren to pay for.

TOAST: To Justin Seward for the picture and great story about the two young bowlers and their coach going to bowling nationals in Ottawa. Coach Tracy and bowlers Kolby and Kale worked really hard at provincials to earn the right to represent Alberta.

ROAST: To professors for failing their students. At the April 25 SACPA talk, U of L prof. Susan Dieleman claims that professors teach critical thinking and questioning. If this was the case students would not be rallying in support of a terrorist group. Critical thinking would have students question such rallies rather than jump on the bandwagon just to be part of something that sounds cool without having a clue what that something is.

TOAST: To the letter about a cat bylaw. Communities everywhere need to intervene to stop this needless and preventable destruction of our bird populations

ROAST: To premier Smith. She was praising the carbon capture project until the company decided that it was not economically feasible and was pulling out.

ROAST: We don’t need a train linking the cities and Banff. It’s sure to be a money pit taxing Alberta billions of dollars. I wish Smith would be a real conservative and leave the project totally privately funded.

TOAST:To the decision makers on the new grant program for sports and recreation facilities. I wholeheartedly hope that whoever controls the Fritz Sick Pool will take advantage and submit a proposal for a grant for upgrades to the pool that are so needed,

not just for seniors but families as well. That pool has been in need for years for upgrades.

ROAST: To Danielle Smith and all her ideas to disrupt our provincial government and citizens of Alberta.I made the big mistake voting for the UCP the last election, but if Danielle Smith runs again, I am not voting for that party.

ROAST: My mother taught school in Alberta for about 30 years and I attended various facilities for 16 years so I have been exposed to many aspects of the education facilities and policies in the province. Given the latest rants of the Alberta Teachers Association I am sure they would not be happy if every teacher made $200,000 a year and all classes were made up of 10 or less students. It is way past time to purge the NDP influence in this organization and get back to some less confrontational and more productive interaction with the government.
